# Nicotine and Temperature

Nicotine is an extremely toxic compound found in tobacco. The removal of nicotine from tobacco waste is an important process to reduce the toxicity of many tobacco-based manufacturing waste products. This makes the waste products potentially useful in other applications, such as cattle feed.

One potential method to reduce the nicotine level is the use of bacteria to consume the nicotine. Researchers have been studying the capabilities of the bacteria Pseudomonas geniculata and have conducted tests to determine the optimal conditions for the bacteria to remove nicotine.

Study 1

The researchers looked at the relationship between temperature and the rate of nicotine consumption, by measuring the concentration change at different temperatures.

Study 2

The researchers also looked at the relationship between pH and the rate of nicotine consumption by the bacteria.

In a third study, the researchers looked at the relationship between the initial concentration of nicotine and the rate of nicotine consumption by the bacteria.
