The picture below shows three Tanager species found in Costa Rica. The Scarlet Tanager (left) is found throughout Central America and is the common ancestor of the other two pictured species that are separated by the Talamanca mountains that run through Costa Rica and Panama. The Passarini's Tanager (center) is found on the Caribbean coast of Central America, and the Cherrie's Tanager (right) is found on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and Panama.
