Zebra Mussels Effect

APES-LLYEJW

A secchi disk is a tool to measure water clarity. The greater the Secchi depth while remaining visible, the greater the water clarity. Zebra mussels are filter feeders that take in water and consume the algae present in the water.

Using that information and the graph, identify the effect zebra mussels can have on the environment.

A

Zebra mussel density and water clarity are inversely propportional due to increased algae density when zebra mussels are present.

B

Zebra mussel density and water clarity are directly proportional due to decreased numbers of other mussel species when zebra mussels are present.

C

Zebra mussel density and water clarity are directly proportional due to decreased algae density when zebra mussels are present.

D

Zebtra mussel density and water clarity are inversely proportional due to decreased algae density when zebra mussels are present.

E

Zebra mussel density and water clarity are not connected based on the data.
