Luaus and Culture

APHUG-VPYJJY

Before contact with the Western world, Hawaiians celebrated special occasions with a big feast, sometimes consisting of thousands of people, in what they called luaus.

During luaus, food like poi, pork, seafood, fruits and vegetables were used symbolically.

Today, luaus are a popular "theme" for major celebrations, even if the people celebrating aren't Hawaiian or live on the other side of the world. Many entertainment companies specialize in throwing these kinds of themed parties.

This profit-seeking behavior serves as an example of cultural ______________.

A

B

acculturation.

C

D
