Traffic Flow in Cities

APHUG-YCSANJ

Traffic is often times cited as one of the leading disamenities in urban areas. However, it has been shown that adding more lanes in freeways has a negative effect on the overall traffic levels. Why is this the case?

A

The extra lanes mean more automobile pollution in the area creating more smog.

B

The extra lanes make traffic flow faster meaning more deaths when crashes do occur on highways.

C

The extra lanes create a sense of counter urbanization creating more people to leave the urban zones.

D

The extra lane makes areas more accessible actually creating more traffic on the highways.

E

The extra lanes do not offer merging options creating longer distances traveled by commuters.
