Carts Collide When Moving Opposite Directions: Momentum

APPH12-KSJ0ZY

Two carts of equal mass, $A$ and $B$, approach each other, moving in opposite directions at the same speed. The front of the carts have velcro fabric on them in order to make the carts stick together after the collision.

What will happen to the carts after they collide?

A

The carts will both stop.

B

The carts will move in the direction cart $A$ was moving before the collision.

C

The carts will move in the direction cart $B$ was moving before the collision.

D

The carts cannot stick together because this does not conserve momentum and they will bounce off each other in opposite directions.
