Rabbit Fur and Balloon

APPH12-Y2QFFP

Both an inflated rubber balloon and a dry rabbit fur have zero electric charge. A student rubs the balloon with the rabbit fur then separates the two objects. Next the student slowly brings the balloon close to the rabbit fur.

What will happen to the rabbit fur and why?

A

The rabbit fur will be attracted to the balloon because they have opposite charge.

B

The rabbit fur will be repelled from the balloon because they have similar charge.

C

The rabbit fur will not be affected by the balloon because the student’s hands are removing the charge from the balloon by grounding it.

D

The rabbit fur will not be affected by the balloon because only the balloon has a net charge and the rabbit fur is neutral.
