Two hockey players, "Wordie" and "Gayne" had a 'head-on' collision. Wordie (mass = 86 kg) was moving toward the south side (the positive direction) of the rink at 9.6 m/s just before the collision.
Gayne was moving toward the north side of the rink at 8.4 m/s just before the collision. They became entangled and together moved at 1.3 m/s toward the south side of the rink immediately after the collision. The horizontal forces between their skates and the ice were negligible during the collision.
What was Gayne's mass?
