Waves: Slinky Lab

Students are asked to design an experiment to demonstrate that waves pass through each other on a slinky rather than bouncing off of each other.

Which of the following procedures below will give the needed proof?

Send two pulses of equal magnitude on the same side of the spring and look at the constructive interference when they meet and the pulses after that point again.

Create a standing wave on the slinky with a node in the middle to show that the wave continues on either side of the node.

Send two pulses with different amplitudes toward each other and observe what happens after they pass.

Generate a pulse and then a second identical pulse on the opposite side of the spring and observe if they continue with the same phase.
