Velocity of the Center of Mass After a Collision

A block of mass $m$ slides along a frictionless surface at a velocity $v$ to the right. It collides with an ideal, massless spring attached to a block of mass $3m$ that is initially at rest (see diagram). During the collision, the spring at first compresses and then expands eventually pushing the smaller block away so that the two blocks are again separate.
