Effectors and Allosteric Enzymes

BIOCHM-LJ7Y$6

Allosteric enzymes exist in two slightly different quaternary structures: the high affinity R form and the low affinity T form. There is usually a 50% T and 50% R distribution but effectors can alter this. A negative effector that binds to the T form will increase the amount in the T form.

What will this do the graph of Velocity vs. Substrate concentration?

A

It will shift the curve to the right producing a decrease in${ S }_{ 0.5 }$ value.

B

It will shift the curve to the right producing an increase in ${ S }_{ 0.5 }$ value.

C

It will shift the curve to the left producing a decrease in the ${ S }_{ 0.5 }$ value.

D

It will shift the curve to the left producing an increase in the ${ S }_{ 0.5 }$ value.

E

It will not shift the curve in either direction nor will it change the ${ S }_{ 0.5 }$ value.
