Fatty Acid Oxidation - Intermediate Structure

The first reaction in the initial stage of mitochondrial β-oxidation of a saturated fatty acyl-CoA molecule generates a trans-Δ2-enoyl-CoA intermediate. The reaction is catalyzed by acyl-CoA dehydrogenase and requires the coenzyme FAD as shown in the schematic below.
