Identifying Bioisosteres

BIOCHM-S1JKJ5

When two compounds are called bioisosteres, it means that they are closely-related compounds with one single change that is NOT tied to the way the compounds are joined (that is actually what isomerism is). A change of halogen type, for example, is a great way to think of bioisosterism.

With respect to amino acids, which pair(s) of amino acids can be considered as bioisosteres?

Select ALL that apply.

A

Phenylalanine and tyrosine.

B

Serine and cysteine.

C

Aspartic acid and asparagine.

D

Leucine and isoleucine.
