Mucopolysaccharidosis Causes

BIOCHM-GBRJKR

Mucopolysaccharidoses are a group of related inherited storage diseases (individually, Mucopolysaccharidosis Type #) that result in an accumulation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). GAGs are long unbranched polysaccharides consisting of a repeating disaccharide unit.

What is the cause of these diseases?

A

A deficiency of cytosolic proteolytic enzymes.

B

A deficiency of lysosomal hydrolytic enzymes.

C

Increased rate of glycosaminoglycan synthesis.

D

A significant reduction in the synthesis of protein cores for the glycosaminoglycans.

E

The synthesis of polysaccharides with an altered structure.
