# Power Supply to a Resistor by a Battery with Internal Resistance

EANDM-XH7PKS

The diagram below shows a circuit consisting of a battery with $emf=12\text{ V}$, internal resistance $r=1.5 \ \Omega$, and a resistor $R=5 \ \Omega$.

Often, the internal resistance of the battery is ignored because its resistance is much less than that of the rest of the circuit. In this case, the internal resistance of the battery should not be ignored.
