Alleles Across Generations: Relationship to Great Grandparents

GENES-TRW5EK

A basic assumption of inheritance in sexually reproducing species is that half of the genetic material of an individual comes from each parent, and in each generation a parent passes half of its genetic material to its offspring (the exception to this is with the sex chromosomes).

Relationships can be viewed as the sharing of alleles.

In regard to these fundamental concepts, what is the expected fraction of alleles that would be shared between an individual and their great grandmother?
