Ronald Fisher and Genotype Distributions

GENES-EQZBBU

Ronald A. Fisher (1890-1962) is viewed as one of the founders of population genetics, along with J.B.S. Haldane and Sewell Wright. Fisher described several probability distributions leading to improved statistical theory and applications.

Study the image below to answer the following questions.

Distributions of genotypes with different numbers of dominant alleles. These values are based on two alleles per locus. With one locus, genotypes have either 2, 1, or 0 dominant alleles (AA, Aa, aa, respectively), etc. Created for Albert.io. Copyright 2016. All rights reserved.

Choose the statement(s) below that correctly characterize information from the above image.

Select ALL that apply.

A

As the number of loci increases, the distribution of genotypes becomes more continuous.

B

The number of alleles per locus must be greater than two for distributions of genotypes to become more continuous.

C

With a larger number of loci, the distribution of genotypes becomes more like a normal distribution.

D

As the number of loci increases, the distribution of genotypes becomes more like a Chi-square distribution.

E

All loci affecting quantitative traits are expected to have equal effects.
