Driving Habits

GMAT-XMFXFV

Each year, there are 1.3 million fatalities and 50 million injuries from traffic accidents worldwide. Statistics show that vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 29, and cause billions of dollars in damages and medical expenses. As an approach to reducing the number of accidents each year, local governments have been advised to introduce methods of unobtrusively monitoring driving behavior, such as tracking acceleration and driving speed, to identify aggressive driving patterns.

The implementation of such monitoring would be expensive, and would include costs associated with equipment, analytical software, and analysts to review data and make recommendations for improving problems areas and targeting aggressive drivers. Despite the potential cost, many municipalities have plans to implement the recommended monitoring.

Of the following, which most strengthens the above argument?

A

Aggressive driving is more likely in areas with younger drivers.

B

Making people aware of their driving habits will reduce aggressive driving.

C

Up to 70% of accidents are caused by excessive speed and inattentive drivers.

D

Increasing insurance coverage requirements reduces the cost of accidents.

E

Using low-visibility observation methods does not impact driver behavior.
