Employees of our company are often stressed due to professional and personal reasons. We believe that we can help reduce
stress among our employees by offering two program to help reduce stress. We can create a tai chi class and a yoga class.
Tai chi is a Chinese practice of slow, fluid motions. Yoga is a Indian practice of breathing exercises and stretching movements.
Stressed out? Sign up now to participate in tai chi or yoga! Any employee who wishes to join one of these classes can
volunteer now. The program will start next week. Bring a friend!
We are pleased to announce the following results of our stress reduction programs. A survey of all participants before
the beginning of the programs showed the average stress level of the participating employees was 68 on a 100-point
scale. (100 points indicates the highest stress level.) After this six month program, those in the tai chi program took the
survey again and recorded an average stress level of 51, and those in the yoga program recorded an average stress level
of only 42! As we look to move our company forward and expand after finally securing the highly profitable Delta Ex
account, this reduced stress will make sure nothing can stop our wonderful employees!
Consider each of the following statements. Does the information in the three sources support the inference as stated?
"The company has a well designed plan to make sure that employees are randomly assigned to participate either in tai chi or yoga."
"The stress reduction measurements would be more accurate at describing the effects of tai chi and yoga if the program had lasted one year instead of six months."
"The Delta Ex account may have played an important role in the stress reduction measurements."
