Transit System Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation collects data on the funding and expenditures of public transit systems. The chart below shows total public transit agency expenditures for capital investments between 2000 and 2010 (http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/policy/2013cpr/chap6.cfm). In 2009 and 2010, a category was added for funds from the Recovery Act (also known as the stimulus package), which displaced some other federal funds due to the strict two-year obligation limit specified for Recovery Act funds.
