Hamlet's Personality

HAMLET-8KEHX8

Hamlet easily guesses that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have been sent for by the king and queen and, after winning their reluctant admission, tells them that he knows why, since he has of late lost all his mirth, forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed it goes so heavily with his disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to him a sterile promontory.

What do these statements reveal about Hamlet?

A

That he has eavesdropped a conversation between Claudius and Gertrude arranging for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’s visit to Elsinore.

B

That he is a suspicious and paranoid individual who suspects ulterior motives in everyone.

C

That he is an intelligent and self-aware individual who recognizes when something is amiss.

D

That he is so self-absorbed and consumed with his own importance that he thinks himself the center of the universe.

E

That he knows himself to be an unlikable person who cannot maintain friendships.
