Voracious Aspect

HRTDRK-FJEUB5

In section 3, the natives take Kurtz out of his cabin on a stretcher, and Marlow describes what he sees

I saw him open his mouth wide- it gave him a weirdly voracious aspect, as though he wanted to swallow the air, all the earth, all the men before him.

What can be inferred about Kurtz's mental and physical state here?

A

Kurtz is greedy. Even in death, he wishes to take in and control all that is around him.

B

Kurtz is struggling to breathe and his gulping for air shows that he is not ready to die.

C

Kurtz is yelling at the natives who carry him. He is not ready to give up his power over them.

D

Kurtz does not understand why the natives have removed him from his sick bed. He is wavering from a conflicted sense of responsibility.

E

Kurtz no longer realizes where he is, so he is babbling incoherently as he tries to "escape" his situation.
