Regan: “I cannot think my sister… would fail her obligation.”

KINGLR-DYR@ON

When Lear first tells Regan that Goneril has treated him unkindly (“she hath tied / Sharp-tooth’d unkindness, like a vulture, here”), Regan’s initial response is that she cannot imagine her sister would “scant her duty” or “fail her obligation.”

What does Regan suggest Goneril’s “obligation” is?

A

To maintain a peaceable household.

B

To put Lear up and provide for him, in keeping with their agreement.

C

To let Lear keep as many men as he wants, in keeping with their agreement.

D

To act wholly according to her father’s wishes.

E

To act wholly according to Albany’s wishes.
