Effects of Sleep Deprivation

NEURO-93FETJ

Sleep is a confounding neurological need. Although there are different cycles of sleep and levels of neural activity during sleep; not all observed cycles of sleep cause difficulty if deprived.

Patients deprived of REM sleep do not exhibit neural dysfunction during awake states. However, patients deprived of stage 4 deep sleep show reduced neural activity during awake states.

If a patient is sleep-deprived, which of the following behaviors would be observed?

A

A decrease in anxiety associated behaviors.

B

No change in the ability to perform physical exercise.

C

Improved cognitive functioning.

D

A decrease eye movement during the next REM cycle.
