Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical technique used to treat a number of neurological conditions, including Parkinson's Disease (PD). Parkinson's Disease is a neurodegenerative disorder in which neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) are progressively lost. The symptoms of PD include tremors and difficulty initiating voluntary movements.
