Difficult

Repetition of Because

CRUCBL-EVKRWG

After he rips up the confession and Danforth asks him why he did it, Proctor responds:

Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!

Why does Miller utilize this repetition of "because"?

A

It shows the contempt Proctor has for Danforth.

B

It highlights the fact that Proctor is justifying his actions.

C

The repetition gives the long list of reasons a forceful rhythm.

D

The use of "because" causes incomplete sentences, which shows Proctor's anger.

E

By using "because", Proctor is able to finally tell Danforth how he really feels.
