George's Borrowed Suit

GATSBY-EHAZUK

At the party at her apartment, Myrtle recounts the following memory of her wedding:

He borrowed somebody's best suit to get married in and never even told me about it, and the man came after it one day when he was out. She looked around to see who was listening: 'Oh, is that your suit?' I said. 'This is the first I ever heard about it.' But I gave it to him and then I lay down and cried to beat the band all afternoon.

Why did Myrtle cry after returning the suit?

A

She had hoped that George would take her out later, and now realized he could not, as he didn’t have a suit.

B

The fact that George didn’t own a suit of his own betrayed his social and economic status, and Myrtle was disappointed.

C

Myrtle was embarrassed to have to speak to a stranger about an arrangement her husband had made.

D

Myrtle believed she knew everything about George when they were married, but it seemed that he had made plans behind her back by borrowing this suit.

E

The owner of the suit was unkind when he came to collect it. Myrtle was afraid and upset that George wasn’t there to handle it.
