The Wave Equation: Ducks

You are going for a walk through the park when you pass by a small pond. The wind is blowing at a steady $4\text{ m/s}$, which is causing waves to move across the surface of the water at the same speed.

In the center of the pond floats a duck who is trying to remain stationary but is being rocked up and down by the waves. The distance between successive wave fronts (crests) is $3\text{ m}$.
