What is the significance of the following quote in chapter 1?

…a raging, intolerable desire to be alone. Until he could be alone it was impossible to think this new development out.

Winston is worried that the Thought Police will become suspicious of him because of the facial expressions he may make while thinking about the girl and her note.

Winston is worried that someone will detect the emotions he exhibits as he thinks about the girl and the situation and turn him into the Thought Police.

Winston doesn’t have time to think about the girl and his feelings because he has so much work to do; he needs alone time to be able to reflect on his reaction.
