Winston considers the freedom he would've had in his life had he stayed strong and refused the temptation of Julia and the accompanying passions of their relationship.


Winston's freedom relies on his ability to refuse succumbing to the Party's manipulation tactics of his own mind.


Winston feels that dying is the only way one can be free because his mind and thoughts would be his own.
