During the process of cell division, it is necessary to make a duplicate copy of DNA for any new cells produced. First, the template strand of DNA is unwound by breaking the hydrogen bonds between the complementary strands. Next an RNA primer acts as an anchor for the new DNA strand to form. Last, matching nucleotides are connected to the growing DNA chain and gaps between DNA fragments are sealed together. All of these complex processes require enzymes in order to progress.
