$f(c)$ is defined for all $c$ in the open interval $(a, \, b)$.

There exists a $c$ in the closed interval $\left[ a, \, b \right]$ such that $f(c) \ge f(x)$ for all other values of $x$ in $\left[ a, \, b \right]$.
