What does it mean if a metal container is grounded?
Any excess charge on the container will be transferred into a larger conducting system.
There must be nothing between the metal container and the floor, or ground.
All valence electrons on the object will be drawn away from the metal container into a larger conducting system.
When a different charged conductor is brought close to the metal container there is no chance of a spark between the two objects.
