How is this description of Grendel's claws significant?

"Every nail,
claw-scale and spur, every spike
and welt on the hand of that heathen brut
was like barbed steel. Everybody said
there was no honed iron hard enough
to pierce him through" (983-988).

It is symbolic of the weapons Grendel was too good to use.

It is a metaphor for the weapons Grendel cursed during his fight with Beowulf.

It is ironic; Beowulf refused to use weapons because Grendel did not.

It foreshadows the weapons Grendel's mother will later on use.

It zoomorphizes weapons and offers another explanation for Beowulf's earlier refusal to use them.
