Why does Beowulf bring Hrothgar only the giant sword's hilt?
The whole sword was "huge and heavy" (1561).
"The sword dripped blood" (1569).
"The sword began to melt into gory icicles" (1606).
Beowulf "carried no spoils from those quarters" (1613).
Beowulf is encumbered by Grendel's head that "was a task for four" to carry (1637).
