Male chameleons can change color via a mechanism different from most other color-changing animals. Most animals disperse or concentrate pigment granules in their skin to change color.
The chameleon relaxes or excites (which stretches) its skin, thereby changing the orientation of guanine crystals within the skin. This alteration in the crystal orientation causes light to reflect off of the crystals at different wavelengths.
Which of the following cellular substances also contain guanine?
