The wisdom teeth in humans are located at the back of the mouth and serve no apparent function for the survival (i.e., feeding) or reproductive success of our species. However, in the past, as human diets today are different from our ancestor’s diets, wisdom teeth may have once served an important function in the mastication of different foods.
