The sodium-potassium (Na+ / K+) pump is a well-studied form of active transport. This pump is a protein embedded in the plasma membrane that moves sodium out of the cell and potassium into the cell across the cell membrane, in order to create a resting potential inside the cell.

If this pump were unable to shuttle sodium out of the cell, how would this affect the resting potential of the inside of the cell?

A

The inside of the cell would have a less positive charge.

B

The inside of the cell would be neutral.

C

The inside of the cell would have a more positive charge.

D

The inside of the cell would be negative.
