The Calvin cycle is a critical pathway for photosynthetic bacteria and plants to store excess energy. This cycle is different from most of the other metabolic processes you have likely studied such as glycolysis, Krebs cycle, and the light reactions. The Calvin cycle is anabolic, meaning it is used to ultimately build molecules and store potential energy.
