Miss Kenton eloquently describes how Mr. Stevens’ father appeared to her from the second-floor bedroom window of Darlington Hall. This memory moves Mr. Stevens as it has remained with him as well.



The senior Mr. Stevens still looked strong and upright for his age.


Mr. Stevens’ father was beaming because had just at that moment found Lord Darlington’s signet ring (which had been lost months before) in the summer house.


Mr. Stevens, Sr. took ill and died soon after that evening.


That was Miss Kenton’s last day at Darlington Hall.


That was the only time Mr. Stevens addressed Miss Kenton as Sally.
