A wave pulse is sent down a wire which is fastened at one end. The relative amplitude of the wave is +A as it lies above the wire. When the pulse reaches the end of the wire, it reflects and travels the opposite direction, only to meet up again with a second pulse of amplitude +A. When these two waves meet, interference occurs.
