Albert knows Virginia

Over the years, our Content team has developed a deep expertise in Virginia's academic standards, graduation requirements, and assessments. We've summarized the considerations that have guided our product development below.

Virginia uses the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL), developed independently of Common Core. SOL standards cover ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies with state-specific expectations at every grade level.

Virginia SOL tests are administered in Grades 3–8 and as EOC exams in high school. Verified credits from SOL testing are required for both Standard and Advanced Studies Diplomas.

Grades 3–8 Assessments
  • ELA: Grades 3–8 (Virginia SOL Reading & Writing).

  • Math: Grades 3–8 (Virginia SOL Math).

  • Science: Grades 5 and 8 (Virginia SOL Science).

  • History: Grades 3, 6, 7, 8 (Virginia SOL History & Social Science).

College & Career Readiness
  • Virginia SOL EOC exams: Required verified credits for graduation.

  • SAT® & ACT®: Widely used; some districts fund SAT®.

  • AP® & IB®: Extensive offerings statewide.

Graduation Overview

Virginia requires 22 Standard credits plus 5 verified credits (SOL exams) for the Standard Diploma, or 26 Standard credits plus 5 verified credits for the Advanced Studies Diploma. Economics & Personal Finance is a required 1-credit course for graduation.

Keep students on track to graduate
  1. Rigorous practice across grades and subjects, fewer students fall behind.

Love from Virginia Educators

  • I use Albert for homework, problem sets, test remediation, and review. It has enabled me to dive deep into what topics the students understand well and what they need more help with. The standards alignment makes planning and reteaching so much easier.

  • As a new APUSH teacher I was unsure about my ability to prepare my students for the specifics of the AP® exam. I found Albert and decided to pilot the program at my school. My students answered over 51,000 questions in preparation for the exam. My pass rate went from 44.7% to 64.2% and I had 12 students earn 5s. My students scored above state and local averages in every single multiple choice category.

    Social Studies Teacher
  • I love using Albert.io to prepare my AP® Spanish Language and AP® Spanish Literature students for their respective exams. It has been a huge time saver, allowing me to spend more time preparing my lessons rather than creating assessments.

    World Language Teacher
  • Albert is being used in my math classroom as a tool to reinforce what we're learning through practice and review. Topics align with our lessons and students complete questions to build their skills. Albert provides instant feedback, which helps them understand their mistakes and learn from them.

  • From 9th grade Honors ELA students to 12th grade AP® Lit students, I have found something relevant and rigorous for all of my students. The preparation that Albert provides for AP® students and their exams is invaluable.
