What does the admissions office say?
The admissions office says that they look at the complete package of your application and that there is no minimum requirement for GMAT/GRE scores or GPAs. The admissions committee does view taking the GMAT more than once (if your score is not strong) as a strong virtue but does not recommend taking the exam more than three times. They will look at the instance in which you scored the highest. The GMAT score would only be valid for five years, which is the standard that is set by the GMAC–so if you’re score is older than the threshold, you must take the exam again to revalidate your score.
Booth does not accept late exam test scores; test scores must be in by the deadline of the application submission. However, Booth does stipulate that the GMAT test scores be self-reported unofficially to review the application. This means that the last date you can take the exam is the day of the exam. Your official score report must be made available to Booth once you are admitted.
The GMAT or the GRE is required for all application. There is no advanced degree or professional exam that would substitute in its place.
Things to keep in mind about University of Chicago Booth
1. Customizable Curriculum: Students have only ONE core course. That means you can fill your schedule as you like, taking courses you are interested in and classes that pertain to your particular major or concentration. This customizable curriculum means that Booth gives its students almost full control over their educational experience. While other schools may have a more extensive core to give students the full breadth of what they consider be management-required classes, Booth allows you to decide for yourself if that is the best route for you. 2. Fact-based, Data-based, model-making approach: A lot of the decision-making skills you learn involve math, statistics, model-making, risk assessments, and other quantitative and more technical tools. This will not be your entire curriculum but will be an emphasis on your education. If you hate math, and you hate finance, Booth may not be the perfect school for you.
